By Faith Or Not By Faith?
Before ending this sermon with one of the most touching, challenging and powerful missionary stories you have ever heard…. Murray begins by turning our attention to Hebrews 11, probably the most well-known chapter in the bible on faith. However, this is not your typical message about faith. In this sermon, Murray exposes how certain characters in the bible took the promises of God and then went about scheming and manipulating situations in order to try to bring about those promises – not by simple faith!
Sometimes we are tempted to push and pull situations to make God’s will happen or we feel like walking away from God when it seems from our point of view that He is not being faithful to us. In all of this, God is calling us to trust Him, and never to lean on our own understanding. Living by faith means believing that God will be faithful to the promises He has made, even if the circumstances make it look impossible. And even when we do try to take over, God still has his ways of fulfilling His promises and moulding us into the person He wants us to be, as Murray demonstrates with the deeply touching story he ends with (you may want to make sure you have a box of tissues ready!).
